SurePayroll expanded its household employer solution set with the addition of Centennial, Colorado-based NannyChex. The parent company of SurePayroll, Paychex, Inc., acquired NannyChex in May 2022.

More than 1.5 million childcare and 4.6 million home health and personal care workers will populate the American workforce over the next decade. Add housekeepers, personal assistants, gardeners, and personal chefs to the mix, and the need for a simple solution to ensure household employers comply with payroll and tax responsibilities is clear.

A household employer is responsible for managing payroll, including withholding taxes. Paying service providers “under the table” is no longer a viable option as failure to properly classify a household employee can lead to serious tax consequences, including tax evasion charges and penalties that could exceed $25,000.

SurePayroll Set to Help More Household Employers

SurePayroll began selling dedicated household payroll services in 2013. The company is now widely recognized as a leader in the household employer segment, named best payroll service for consecutive years by Business News Daily and Business.org, and The Best Nanny Payroll Software by Digital.com. With the recent addition of Centennial, Colorado-based NannyChex, SurePayroll is poised to help more household employers.

“SurePayroll offers household employers a simple solution to the complexities of household payroll and tax responsibilities. The acquisition of NannyChex increases our ability to deliver needed services to a growing market, and is a win for household employers, who now have more service options,” said John Cumbee, SurePayroll General Manager. “The NannyChex dedicated services model and suite of additional payroll and tax services is complimentary to the SurePayroll DIY self-service model. This acquisition further differentiates SurePayroll in the household employer market segment.”

Household Employers, Team Members Benefit

Husband-wife team Steve and Sima Gelman started NannyChex in 1995; son Josh later joined the business. The business serves household employers in 50 states and has recorded consistent revenue and client growth.

Acorrding to Steve Gelman, president, NannyChex, LLC, there is “natural symmetry between NannyChex and SurePayroll.”

“NannyChex has been an industry leader since 1995, thanks to our superior value and friendly, hardworking experts who deliver exceptional service. SurePayroll is an impressive organization that has grown its household payroll segment tremendously. We both strive to help clients navigate payroll tax requirements without worry—something which made the decision to join the Paychex enterprise an easy one. This move will help NannyChex continue our mission to serve current clients, benefit new clients, and provide our employees with additional resources and career growth,” said Steve Gelman, President, NannyChex, LLC.

NannyChex team members will join SurePayroll, and there will  be no disruption to NannyChex operations or customer relationships—the organization will continue to operate as it does today.
